Your Journey to Becoming an ADI | Driving Instructor Training

Becoming a driving instructor is a rewarding career that allows you to shape safe, confident drivers. This guide is designed to provide you with a clear, step-by-step approach to help you achieve your goal.

1. Eligibility Requirements

Are you over 21?
Have you had a full car driving licence for at least 3 years?
Have you been banned (disqualified) from driving in the last 4 years?

2. Get a DBS Check

Make sure all details are accurate. Cost of DBS is **£8.22**.

Apply for DBS Check

Within 3 working days you should receive an email with a reference number.
You can now start practicing for your **Part 1 theory test**.
Ask your trainer, Ozgul, to email you PDF files if you're training with Lavinia.

3. Register with DVSA

Once you receive your DBS check certificate, use the link to register with DVSA. You will receive a personal reference number and user ID. Keep them safe.

4. Booking Part 1 Theory Test

When you feel ready, you can book your Part 1 test. Discuss with your trainer before you book. Cost is **£81**.

Don't worry if you don't pass on your first try; there is no limit to the number of attempts.

5. Part 2 Driving Test

Cost is **£111**. You have only **3 attempts** to pass this test, so ensure you are ready. You need to drive at a high standard for 1 hour with no more than 6 minor faults.

**NOTE:** If you are waiting for your test date, you can start your 40-hour Part 3 training to get a pink badge.

6. 40-hour Part 3 Training

This training is compulsory to get a pink badge and earn while learning. Your trainer will role-play as a learner. The cost of the Pink Badge is **£140**.

**REMEMBER:** The purpose of the pink badge is to gain experience, not just to earn money. Continue your learning regularly and effectively.

7. ADI 21 AT

This form is for an extra **20 hours of compulsory lessons**. You must fill it out within 3 months of your pink badge being valid. If you forget, you will not be eligible for a second badge.

8. Part 3 Test

Part 3 is your Teaching Ability Test. The cost is **£111**. You have **3 attempts**. If you fail all 3, you must wait 2 years after your theory test to start from the beginning. If you pass, you can apply for your full ADI certificate.
